Everything You Need to Know About Medicare
Medicare is a federally operated social health insurance program that provides hospital care and medical care coverage for the elderly and certain disabled Americans. There are many qualifications to receive Medicare coverage. Generally, people 65 or older, younger people with disabilities and people with permanent kidney failure will be accepted into the Medicare program. Medicare helps people that are unable to work pay for their medical coverage.
The Details Behind Medicaid Health Coverage
Medicaid is a government health insurance program that is jointly operated by state governments and the federal government. This is a program that provides health coverage for individuals with limited resources and low-income families. Medicaid can provide full coverage insurance or supplemental coverage that covers out-of-pocket costs associated with Medicare. Each state administers its own Medicaid program with oversight from the federal government.
Where Medicare and Medicaid Coverage Overlap
A small portion of the population will qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid coverage. Depending on their Medicaid benefits, they receive full dual-eligible coverage or partial dual-eligible coverage. As a requirement, someone must receive full Medicaid benefits to qualify for full dual eligibility. There are specific health plans designed for those that are dual-eligible called Dual Special Needs Plans that can include dental, hearing and vision coverage.
